an interstellar love
I’ll be displaying 22 paintings in my bin alleyway next month.
Opening night: Friday 20th September between 5-7pm.
Open for viewings on subseqent Thursday & Friday afternoons 2pm - 4:30pm for two weeks. Here are some words I wrote as an introduction to this series:
In August last year, I found myself performing what can only be described as a classic comedy double take at a framed photograph resting on the bookshelf in the living room. The photograph in the frame is a printed-out version of the original: it is my late mum holding the hand of a one-year-old version of myself, enjoying a stroll in the park. I stopped hoovering at once and took a closer look. Later that very same day, I rooted around in the loft in search of my childhood.
I had unearthed this box full of photographs and brought them downstairs and into the garden studio. I began to study them intently. Our daughter had just turned one at the time, so it felt like I was replaying a lot of moments from the previous year of our lives. The undeniable joy at becoming a father for the first time, juxtaposed with the resurfacing emotions of the loss of a parent was abundantly present in every image I could hold in my hands.

South Bank Mural Project
I was recently commisioned by Danny Morris at Sustrans (a charity which works to improve active travel routes within local communities) to paint a mural on an underpass in South Bank.
Working alongside artists Adele Catchpole and Ella Deacy, we created a gallery wall of artwork following a recent visit to the 2nd Normanby Scouts. The children were asked to think not only about how the path (known locally as The Black Path or The Lines) is used today and what can be seen while travelling along it, but also also the history of the path as a former railway line.
